The history of casting production in Seco Industries, s.r.o. dates back to 1913. Thanks to the transferred experience, never-ending development, and constant innovation, we are able to supply castings to manufacturers of trucks, cars and tractors, manufacturers of brake systems for the railway industry in the highest quality. However, it finds its application in a number of other areas. Ductile iron and gray iron castings are formed by casting liquid metal prepared in electric furnaces by melting raw material of the required chemical composition and lumpiness. The condition is that this input or charge material does not contain any impurities, moisture and admixtures of elements that may endanger the quality. The castings are cast into sand molds using an automatic casting device. Cylinder liners castings are cast by a casting machine into special lining molds on a 12-position carousel.

Castings and their accuracy

Castings produced in the Seco Industries, s.r.o. foundry and their accuracy parameters are close to castings produced by the method of precision casting into a lost model at lower production costs. They are formed by pouring liquid metal into prepared sand molds, where the solidification process follows. The raw casting contains remnants of sand mold, risers and inlets, therefore a necessary operation is its subsequent finishing to achieve cleanliness of the surface. We also use CNC grinding machines for finishing. After checking for surface defects, they are handed over for packaging and subsequent dispatch.

Ductile iron castings are a sought-after material for their mechanical properties, ductility, and tensile strength. At Seco Industries, s.r.o. they have a decisive production share. Our ductile iron castings are used not only in the automotive but also in the railway industry, agriculture, construction, and other industries.

At present, approximately 50% of ductile iron castings worldwide are intended for the automotive segment. They have their application here primarily as safety and highly strained elements of cars. They replace more expensive forged, pressed, and welded components such as wheel suspensions, crankshaft bearing caps and other engine and gearbox components. Automotive production meets the strictest criteria for quality, control of production processes and flexibility of supply. They are regularly verified by IATF 16949: 2016 customer audits. We manufacture and supply castings to the largest manufacturers of thermal systems for passenger cars, manufacturers of truck engines and commercial vehicles.

In the railway sector, we encounter ductile iron castings even more often than in the automotive segment. The reason is the uncompromising requirements for the safety of the supplied parts, especially in the area of ​​chassis, brake systems and door mechanisms. These are therefore areas with high dynamic strain. Ductile iron castings best meet these requirements. Technology and measuring equipment in Seco Industries, s.r.o. meets the requirements for the production of safety parts for the railway industry, among others. Direct control of nodularity, mechanical properties and structure for each modification are a guarantee for our customers that the required parameters for the casting are met.

According to the customer’s requirements, we can also supply the casting as a final workpiece with a surface and anti-corrosion treatment. Before the delivery of each order, the parts are inspected for the occurrence of surface defects by the magnetic powder method and subsurface defects by the method of digital radioscopy. We manufacture and supply castings for railways to the largest manufacturers of brake systems. We have many years of experience with direct acceptance of individual railway companies (DB, ČD).
