Cylinder liners

Cylinder liners are an integral part of a multi-cylinder block, most often in a diesel engine, where they define and share the working space and the sliding surface of the piston. The cylinder liner is made of special alloy cast iron, which has higher abrasion resistance compared to gray cast iron with flake graphite. It is machined by precise two-stage drilling and in the final stage by honing, ensuring the achievement of the required roughness parameters of the outer surface of the cylinder liner. This parameter is essential in terms of lubrication and thus the correct function and service life of the engine.

We distinguish two types of cylinder liners according to the type cooling. Dry, where the cooling medium is air, and the most widespread wet cylinder liners. Wet inserts are designed for water-cooled internal combustion engines in which the outer surface is in direct contact with the coolant. In Seco Industries, s.r.o. we produce only wet cylinder liners with the following parameters.

INNER DIAMETER – ID (mm)

102, 105, 108, 110, 111, 115, 127, 130

LENGTH (mm)

210 – 240 for smaller cylinder liners

255 – 280 for larger cylinder liners

WALL THICKNESS AND WEIGHT (after machining and honing)

Approx. 5 mm, 4 – 8 KG

ACCURACY OF CASTINGS

ISO 8062-3, DCTG 7, EN 1563

MATERIAL

EN-GJL 200, EN-GJL 250 according to EN 1561

The production of sand lining casting brings the required mechanical properties and a balanced structure of the cylinder material. Due to subsequent operations on the machining centre, rough castings acquire not only the final shape but also dimensions. Careful multi-stage inspection reveals any non-compliance with the required quality parameters, which is essential for the long-term reliability and service life of the engines intended for customers. Our products therefore meet all the criteria of automotive supply according to IATF 16949: 2016.

Cylinder liners manufactured by Seco Industries, s.r.o.

The production of cylinder liners enjoys a long tradition in the Seco Industries, s.r.o. foundry, the beginning of which dates back to 1967. During its existence, we have produced and sold tens of millions of pieces. Our cylinders are used in diesel engines not only in the automotive industry. You can find them in agricultural machinery and, last but not least, in energy in the form of cogeneration units. Through cogeneration units, heat losses arising from traditional electricity generation are minimized. This thermal energy can be used in the form of heating, which achieves a synergistic effect. The reliability and long life of the components we manufacture are the result of implemented, never-ending activities in the field of optimization of production processes.
